Statement by Dutchess County NY Tea Party Organizer Mert Melfa

February 20, Wappingers- NY-41 State Senate candidate Jim Coughlan is receiving the backing of the Dutchess County Tea Party. Committee spokesman Mert Melfa stated that they are pleased to join the Dutchess County Conservative and Independence Parties, and Dutchess GO-PAC and SCOPE in supporting Mr. Coughlan for his run to replace the current Democrat state senator.

Melfa said: “We were very pleased to hear that Mr. Coughlan offered alternatives to the new Dutchess Utility Tax, but unfortunately his recommendations fell on deaf ears. In this difficult economic environment, having a proven fighter for efficient, cost saving governmental operations is a necessity in Albany. Mr. Coughlan has shown that he is willing to stand up to his own party to reduce excess spending, and will certainly represent and fight for Dutchess County taxpayers in the state senate.”

The Dutchess County Tea Party is known to endorse constitutional conservative candidates for government office who represent hard-working middle America.
